THE BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC
From September 1939 onwards, this "Battle of the Atlantic", as Winston Churchill called it, pitted Admiral Dönitz's U-boats (German submarines) against the Allied convoys of merchant ships coming from North America in order to provide vital supplies and equipment to Great Britain, the only country to resist Hitler's expansionism and thus threatened with a total blockade.
In 1941, to both harbor their submarines and improve the efficiency of their attacks, the Germans built five «U-bunkers» in occupied France's ports : Brest, Lorient, St-Nazaire, La Pallice and Bordeaux. Designed as anti-aircraft shelters, repair depots and resupply stations for food, fuel and ammunition, these bases were impregnable lairs for entire flotillas of U-boats which attacked in wolfpacks at nightfall, spreading terror among the Allies throughout the Atlantic Ocean.
In this military but also industrial and technological race, where the strategies of one side were thwarted by the tactics of the other, the courage of the sailors on both sides commands respect. In the end, the confrontation turned to the advantage of the Allies, but ended only with the surrender of the last pockets of German resistance around their giant bunkers on May 8, 1945, the day Nazi Germany surrendered (aka V-E Day for Victory in Europe Day)
Thus, as part of the 80th Anniversary commemoration of the end of WWII in 2025, the film will shed innovative and immersive light on the ins and outs of the longest continuous battle of the war, on which the Allied victory depended. Blending multiple cinematographic techniques including Animation, CGI, historic footage and stunning aerial and live-action images, The Wolves of the Atlantic will serve as a tribute for those thousands who sacrificed their lives for our Liberty.
